K. Vijayanand IAS: The Apex Administrator of Andhra Pradesh.
K. Vijayanand has, for some time, been a very senior and key member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), which in 2025 will have mostly known him for his time as the Chief Secretary (CS) to the Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP), which is the top bureaucratic post in the state. Additionally, throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated expertise in energy sector issues and achieved success in key administrative roles.
Biography and Energy Sector Authority
K. Vijayanand is a part of the 1992 IAS batch and was put into the Andhra Pradesh Cadre. Born on 18 November 1965, he turned 60 in 202,5, which is the usual age for retirement.
In his professional career, which is a main focus of his, he has had over 14 years of experience in the power sector. In AP’s energy utilities, which is his field of play, he took on many leadership roles, including that of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of AP TRANSCO and APGENCO. Also, through his work, he was key in strategic planning and the implementation of infrastructure projects, which in turn proved his authority in the area of electricity generation and distribution.
Career Milestones and Current Status (2025)
Vijayanand began his career in the field in Srikakulam and Nalgonda, which were very important postings. Also, he played a key role in policy making, which includes that of Information Technology and Industries, in which capacity he was the Principal Secretary during the former TDP regime (2014- 2019), in which he was very much involved in the development of electronics manufacturing policies.
In 2024, he reached the top of his career when he was made Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, which he did before many senior officers. Also known for his controversial and methodical approach to administration, he very soon became a trusted figure of the new government.
As of late 202,5 h, is term as ChiefSecretaryay which was to end in that month, nths instead been extended by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for a period of three months. The extension runs till the end of February 2026, which in turn guarantees administrative stability during what is a very important time of policy implementation in the state.dd
