The Eid Ul Fitr Cinematic Spectac

Traditionally, Eid is a time for celebration, and for Pakistani cinema, it is now the peak time of the year for major film releases. The Eid al-Fitr of 2025 would be no exception, with many films set to be released in theaters, offering something for everyone. One of the more highly anticipated releases is “The Martial Artist,” a passion project by actor and filmmaker Shaz Khan. The Martial Artist is an action film that is an inspiring sports drama about a small-time MMA fighter who gets a big opportunity. The Martial Artist is expected to have training montages and an emotionally charged storyline, expected to attract an audience who appreciates underdog-style stories.
Another exciting action film is “Kabeer,” featuring Meesam Ali and veteran actor Adnan Shah Tipu, which the producers call an homage to the big action films of the 1980s and 1990s with elements of nostalgia and modern action. If audiences love action films with a blend of nostalgia for old stars, then “Ishq-e-Lahore” will likely be the draw of the festival. With this cast of familiar faces in the film, audiences won’t have to be convinced to show up in droves.
An Insight Into Different Genres
The Pakistani film industry in 2025 is not exclusively focused on action but also showcases the many types of genres the filmmakers are engaging with. The comedy genre is highlighted with “Qulfee,” starring Shahroze Sabzwari, Javed Sheikh, and Adnan Shah Tipu. The plot needs no introduction, as it features a hacker who becomes a thief, and should be an entertaining and funny watch, so expect more humor than action. Similarly, “Half Fry,” an action-comedy directed by Abu Aleeha, starring Mohsin Abbas Haider, is basically a re-edit of an unreleased film, somewhat of a funny or odd take on the action-comedy genre.
For audiences who appreciate a touch of nostalgia and classic romance, “Lambi Judaai” is a film that pays tribute to the Lollywood films of the 90s. Starring Babar Ali, this movie is a welcome nod to a bygone era of Pakistani cinema, promising old-school romance and action that will appeal to a wide demographic.
The film’s title, which translates to “Kunti’s Child,” hints at a story steeped in ancient rituals and spirits.

Star Power and Upcoming Films
In addition to Eid films, other films are generating massive interest. You have the romantic comedy “Love Guru” scheduled for a June release featuring two of the biggest names in Pakistan, Humayun Saeed and Mahira Khan. The Nadeem Baig-directed film involves a love guru in quite a comical dilemma. The film’s trailer has also made its way to Times Square in New York City, showcasing a unique moment for Pakistani cinema!
There is also “Delhi Gate,” which has been a long time in the making and is expected to be released in 2025. “Delhi Gate” is directed by Nadeem Cheema with Jawed Sheikh, Shafqat Cheema, and Suzain Fatim, and this film will be quite the spectacle, with a directive to shake off the cobwebs of Lahore’s film industry and recharge it. The story is an ambitious tale, about a young man, ambition, romance, and power reaching the level of the individual he idolizes, at odds with aspiring to power and respect. It feels like 2025 is going to mark a turning point for Pakistani cinema.
