Which Bollywood actors have been in on-screen kisses?
For a long time, Bollywood ignored on-screen kissing scenes, which was a result of cultural issues and strict censorship. Also, once in the past, an Indian cinema went in for symbolic romance, once flowers touching, characters running around trees, or the screen would cut away before getting to the intimate stuff. But as audiences grew and filmmaking went global, we saw more on-screen kisses in mainstream Hindi films.
In the 1930s, which saw the birth of some of the great early works of Indian cinema, Devika Rani’s kiss with Himanshu Rai in the film Karma (1933) stands out. That scene ran for several minutes, which at the time sparked a lot of discussion. Although this was an early instance of on-screen kissing in Bollywood, for many decades, the industry shied away from such scenes.

In this context, we see a lot of talk about actor Emraan Hashmi. Also known as the “serial kisser” of Bollywood, he got that title from a series of kissing scenes in films such as Murder, Aashiq Banaya Aapne, and Jannat. Also,o in the case of his roles, which played out very much in the intense romance genre, these kinds of scenes became a regular feature of what was put out.
Another major player in the Bollywood space, who has starred in make-out scenes, is Aamir Khan. In films like Raja Hindustan, in which Karisma Kapoor featured, he did very memorable romantic numbers. Their rain scene k,iss which played out in the film, became one of the most talked about moments of the 1990’s in Hindi cinema.
Also, in that time,e which saw Shah Rukh Khan stay away from on-screen kisses for many years, he did appear in a few. His kiss with Katrina Kaif in Jab Tak Hai Jan surprised many fans as it came out that he had stayed away from such scenes for over two decades.
In today’s Bollywood,d we see actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in kissing scenes in many of their films. In the modern era,ra these moments are put forth as part of the romance rather than being a point of controversy.
Today in Hindi cinema, what we see is a lot of on-screen kissing. Although some actors still prefer to stay away from it for personal reasons, many directors include make-out scenes that fit into the story. Bollywood is seeing a mix of traditional cultural elements with what the global movie trend is at the moment, which in turn reflects the shift in what audiences want to see.
At the end, screen kisses in Bollywood are a component of how romance is presented in film, which also includes the story, the director’s vision, and the actors’ comfort level.
