What was the result of the Online Gaming Bill?
In 2025, the Indian Parliament put forth the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 202,t which sets out to regulate the online gaming industry and also outlaws all real-money online games, including fantasy sports platforms that charge to play and m 
ay win cash.
As of now, major fantasy gaming platforms like Dream11 had to put a stop to paid contests in India and transition to free-to-play models, which is due to real money gaming being illegal nationwide.

Even before the 2025 Online Gaming Bill, many states had their own set of laws that banned or put in place restrictions on online fantasy gaming. Post the introduction of the new central law, which we see now, what we are seeing is that the restrictions have become uniform in terms of real money play.
Here is a look at which states have Dream11’s real money gaming banned or restricted as of 2026.
States that have a full ban on Dream11’s paid contests.
These states had in place aanti-gamblinglaws which included fantasy sports that had money involved.
Andhra Pradesh has totally banned fantasy gaming.
Assam no tell between skill and chance; real money fantasy games out of the question.
Odisha has very strict gambling laws, which include online money-based games.
Telangana Online money games are out, which include paid fantasy contests.
In those states, Dream11’scash-basedd contests are illegal before the national law.
Warning for Some States which have restrictions and Limited Access.
Some statesrequire ah license for operation.
Sikkim Access restricted; for real money versions of games,e etc., permission is required.
In 
Nagaland, we have local laws which cover fantasy gaming, but many platforms have not gotten the license,s which in turn has restricted full paid participation.
Even still, in this setting, free-to-play options run, which in turn follow the rules.

Real money-based fantasy games are prohibited in all of India, notjust in some states.
Dream11 and other similar platforms are to run free to play non monetary versions in all states.
The law is out to reduce gambling addiction and to protect users from financial ruin, which at the same time will include the elements of esports and social gaming.
This is a total transformation of the fantasy sports model in India. Wee are seeing a shift away from monetary gain to skill-baseded form of entertainment.
