Somvir Rathee was born on 16th November 1990 in the village of Gadwali Kheda in Jind district of Haryana, India.
In his youth, which was spent in rural Haryana, his growth was influenced by the culture of the area, which has a great tradition in wrestling and which also instils physical fitness into daily routine. Also, his background was that of a common man, and he attended Pratap Singh Memorial Senior Secondary School in Sampla Road, Kharkhoda, Sonipat district.
From a very young age, Somvir showed a wrestling talent, which was a product of his environment and his own drive to do well in that sport.

Somvir Rathee is a wrestler and also a railway employee. From what I recall of his bio, he did wrestling put into practice from a young age after he finished school.
Through the years, he was a competitor at national events, which included the interstate championships, where he won many medals, and also served as a stage for him to be recognised for his dedication to the sport.
In July 2016, Indian Railways appointed him as a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) through Rajasthan Railways, giving him stability as he pursued his sports career.
Personal Life & Affairs
Somvir has had a very close personal tie with fellow wrestler and outstanding sports personality Vinesh Phogat. They met when both of them were a part of Indian Railways, which at that time brought into being a very strong base for their friendship, which in time also turned into romance.
In August 2018, after Vinesh won his gold medal at the Asian Games in Jakarta, reports say that Somvir put forward his suit at the airport (Indira Gandhi International in New Delhi) in a very memorable way.
They got married on the 13th of December 2018 in Balali village, Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana.
In 2025, the couple had their first child, a son, to great joy and media attention.
